The re-invogorating beauty of nostalgia - Do you remember?

Hello community,

The purpose of this thread is to recall a few of my moments of playing Asheron's Call 2 back when I was a teenager (I am 30 years old now); I cannot recall all the names of locations, spawns and or monsters (and I will not wiki them that ruins the fun).

Why do this you may ask? Well, I am sure that I am not the only returning "old Ac2" player here, and perhaps some of the things I discuss may kindle old memories; hopefully, all of them positive! However, a quick disclaimer for new players - This thread might contain a fair amount of spoilers so if you do not wish to learn about what the game did/might still hold in store for you as you explore and quest, then perhaps this thread is not for your eyes. Otherwise, if this does not bother you at all then please read on!

Scenario 1 - Kill the Beholder!

Running around with one or two friends in a swampy/forested area; Tumerok country if I remember right. When I played this was one of the first PvP enabled areas and rightly so, since the zone had a few rare-spawn quest-giver 'beholder' type creatures; killing these mobs would grant the entire party a kill quest for xx mobs which gave a decent amount of xp as a reward. This zone was extremely competitive and still to date offered some of the most meaningful PvP that I have had in mmorpgs - My first taste of PvPvE, and it was done right.

Scenario 2 - Welcome to Palisades

The first time I stepped into Palisades it was complete chaos - Lugian players had built turrets on the pillars of the entry portal into this zone, which was PvP enabled. I was dead before I got out of the "psycho tunnel" limbo loading screen. Keep in mind, this was before you had any type of immunities from loading in - which I think got added later. Anyway, at that time Palisades was compulsory to cross to get to the better Shreth spawns for xp grinding at the time (alongside Deimos and Tyrants) - so it was the perfect bottleneck for PvPers.

Now, I was on a EU server back then; I cannot remember the name of the server. However, some of the key PvPers that use to frequent said Palisades were: Mordani, Grimson, Faith, Velee, Wroth, Oakie, Ronja and Furos (to name a few of many), so word-up to you guys. I recall knocking players OVER the mountain (when using the scenery correctly with Raider knockback) into the sea, which bought me endless hours of humour; I never got tired of that.

Scenario 3 - Damn Gurogs...

There was/is a quest-line where you need to farm Gurogs to get "Ebony Pyreals" (If I recall the name correctly) for some weapons and/or armor. Oh my goodness - What a pain in the rear this quest-line was; these demented goat-mean would bounce you around like a beach-ball with their knockback axes, usually into other Gurogs (Which of course, escalated pretty quickly).

Scenario 4 - Deimos

The "King of Tyrants" resides in a dungeon in the area you reach after successfully crossing Palisades (which was a mission in itself back in early 2000). Probably my first ever "raid" type experience (Keeping in mind this was post-WoW fellas) the performance was sluggish at best on my system. After killing various mini-tyrants (compared to Deimos anyway) the haggard group of players got to his "throne room" - If you zoned into the room and took a few steps forward you could trigger the big guy before everyone else had loaded in; which usually meant an entire raid wipe....You really did not want to do that unless you wanted to go pick up Gurog **** (Pyreals) again and be on everyones' blacklist for a while. It took a few weeks but after a while everyone got geared and use to killing this monster tyrant; but he always remained a respected figure in my gaming history. My first raid-boss.

Well, hope some of you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Please feel free to share your experiences!
