Bottom line: make it possible to go back in while the Ruschk guy remains unkilled. I got in there, and it takes agggeees to collect the necessary 5 scalps - and find that mysteriously all 700 tapers have disappeared. I just stocked up before I headed out to finish off the quest. Gone. How? I've no idea, I clearly had some because I zapped a few baddies en-route... but to lose all 700 in a few kills? "You do not have the components for this spell"... uh???
So is that a bug? Components just getting lost somehow. I looked back through the log, and could see nothing out of the ordinary... like "Bandlering steals all your tapers while your back is turned"... that kind of thing.
So I get some more go back... As I suspected, and remember from the wiki page, you click the icy tree thing, and it zaps you. It expects you to once again get more damn scalps, is that stupid or what?
