First of all, well done. From listening to some people around here you would think the UI is terrible. Well I'm here to tell you its not terrible, its actually much improved over the previous version. Yes, it could definitely use a couple tweaks (a couple I see are already in the hotfix patch notes), but overall, this new UI is MUCH better than it was before.
Here are my observations.
Overall, I'd say this layout is a win, assuming all the old farts can deal with change. You can finally ID an item without it covering your entire inventory! I have been asking for that for years. Now if they just update the ICON system so you have an idea of what an item is without having to ID it...
My Layout is currently looking like this, if anyone would like to see:
![]()
Here are my observations.
- Default layout is no good. I see that appears to be addressed in the hotfix.
- Saving/Reloading layouts. Also addressed.
- Download bar panel. How in the world do you customize this UI location? It pops up on the screen while its downloading a dungeon, but there is never enough time to configure it before it disappears. Should I teher my computer to my iPhone? lol.
- Use of the "Escape" key. IMO, the escape key should only be used to minimize/hide windows, nothing else. For example, right now if I press escape once, it closes the ID panel. I press it twice and it opens my settings panel. Why? The escape key should, in this order, close an item ID window, close a corpse, close the inventory panel (or whatever tab it is on).
- Window docking. It seems quite logical to snap two or more windows together, and have them share a UI edge. This way when you can drag an entire group of , the other one goes with it.
- Individual window transparency. IMO some windows need to be 100% opacity, and some need to be transparent. Some of them should be higher transparency while in use, but even lower transparency when not. I think configuring this on a per window basis would be better than as a global setting.
- Default quick slot hotkeys. Why bother keeping Alt+1-4 attached to chat windows? It is real confusing when ALT+F5 opens the 5th new quickslot, but ALT+F4 opens a chat window. Hopefully this isn't the case for new users?
- The ID Panel. Not sure if its possible, but perhaps a way to tweak how the text reads. Right now it reads like a book instead of a stat sheet. There needs to be visual indicators/separation between the different components (property names vs values) on the panel. I know it has mostly always been like that, but it would be a welcome change.
