Once upon a time Asheron's Call was considered a skill based PvP game where a person could fight other players and win even if at a disadvantage by having superior skill and outplaying his opponents.
Those glorious days have been gone for sometime and one of the contributors to this was when the rare armor and weapons were made no longer 100% drop on death.
Rare armor gives the following stats +5 Damage, +5 Defense, +20 Endurance, +20 Quickness and +20 Self.
That amount of stats on one piece of armor is ridiculous. It gives players that have it the ability to take one more sometimes two more hits to kill than it would to kill someone without it.
Currently there is a rare weapon in Asherons Call unlike any other weapon in the game this weapon is 100% shield hollow can be dual wielded and requires no vulns to be used. http://ac.wikkii.net/wiki/Black_Thistle It says it is a wisp slayer but it hits just as hard if not harder then a phantom and like stated above requires nothing to deal maximum damage.
Black Thistle gives the following stats +10 Damage, +20 Strength, +20 Coordination and +20 Focus.
When someone uses the Black Thistle in conjunction with the rare armor the effects stack. Giving a total benefit.
+15 Damage, +5 Defense, +20 Strength, +20 Endurance, +20 Coordination, +20 Quickness, +20 Focus and +20 Willpower
The majority of these items are sold for several hundreds of dollars and that should be a big enough reason to remove them alone however, if you refuse to remove them from the game another option could be to make them 100% drop rate in a PvP death.
Perhaps you could make all rare armor and rare weapons 100% drop rate on death but allow them to be covered by the augmentation http://ac.wikkii.net/wiki/Clutch_of_the_Miser so that they can still be used in PvE and on PvE servers.
