Such a shame

I just have to say--as we stand here before the end of all things--that this game was, and always will be, the one that I felt had the greatest potential of them all.

It is an absolute tragedy to see the game being thrown, again, into the annals of game history. There were so many small tweaks that could have been made to this game to make it competitive enough to stand on its own. Graphically, it was not behind at all and stood out tremendously on the lore front. No other game, excluding its predecessor, rivaled it on the uniqueness and creativity of the world. Tumeroks? Lugians? Virindi? Burun? Gurog?

We just needed turbine to see that. Have they not learned from their earlier mistakes? Abandoning something unique and special that could stand apart from all the others for the already overdone and re-hashed elves and dwarves genre. (I'm looking at you DDO and LOTRO).

Its such a shame. New content could wait, it could. What needed to be addressed were the balances: fixing broken classes, abilities and quests. Tackling the out dated UI for something more responsive and flexible. Small quality of life issues here and there such as bag space and stacking of items including but not limited to potions and quest items (arcanum books).

Its so hard to sit here and think of what could have been when you know it should have been.

So where are we going from here? A free to play game? That's a welcomed change as I disliked the fact that I knew my money was not going towards addressing this games issues and making it presentable to the public; but, rather towards other things such as Asheron's Call. Which I never played and never will. Nor do I plan on supporting any other turbine games in anyway, especially after this latest treatment from the company.

So if the source code and other things are handed over to the community, will we find ourselves some talented minds to address these quality of life issues I've mentioned and maybe move the game forward story wise from there? Are these things possible or is this game truly lost to the sands of time?

Thoughts?
