Over a year ago I created AC Challengers where about 40 of us started at level 5 and made it with our own buffs (no 7's at level 5). Because I was the founder they made me monarch, but I didn't know how to be one. Because of this some of the veteran players said I wasn't assigning officer roles (had no idea you could nor did I know how to) and they quit the guild right after we got a mansion. Then a greedy local guild saw the influx of new characters from other servers and capitalized on it; stealing most of the players for their guild. This didn't last because the players just went back to their regular servers shortly afterwards. I abandoned my character and returned as well.
Then a few months later I got hurt at work and a pronounced dead by a firefighter at the scene (unconscious and not breathing). Loaded up into the ambulance with a sheet over my head. A few minutes after the transit started I became conscious and quickly pulled the sheet down and sat up to see what was going on (I have a rare condition from a head injury during Vietnam that when I am under extreme pain I will pass out and sometimes stop breathing, but not brain dead). The male paramedic was so scared that he almost jumped out the back door while the vehicle was moving at 60 mph. The female paramedic screamed and the driver quickly stopped on the side of the road. When we got to the hospital I instructed them to call the my doctor at the Veterans Medical Center to explain my condition. I was transferred to the VA and stayed there for seven months with a few short returns afterwards.
In the hospital I was thinking of Asheron's Call. Wanted to play, but all I had was an iPad. I have a character with really nice gear, but my initial interests was not grinding him. Instead I was missing the fun we had at AC Challengers. We weren't allowed to use Pathwarden gear (just what we looted). So we ran into the Drudge Nest practically naked and died many times. However it was a lot of fun being that it was so challenging. Even when we got some gear and then some quest gear we kept doing quests that put us in harms way. Without any buff-bots, gifts from others outside the guild, UCM, XP soaking or Facility Hub turn-ins we were all level 80 to 110 within a week anyway.
Now that I am back I want to have that "fun" again. Its a refreshing break from the daily grind on our regular servers and characters. Reminds me of the game I loved playing 15 years ago. If anyone wishes to join me let me know here.
Note: I think the Monarch should be a unplayable mule so no one would get the benefit of loyalty XP. I like playing as a guild, but wish they could turn off the pass-up.
