AC2 longevity concern

Yes its long, and only my opinion.

In the game's current configuration, I believe people can level too quickly and yes this includes me. I’m assuming Turbine wishes to bring the game out of beta and by doing so wants to have a game/product that survives. Out leveling content is a major problem in retaining players. Being able to retain players is key to having a game not collapse (again).

We are 2 months into "beta release" and there are a large number of 50+ people already. For example, on Arramora, there are multiple groups running into each other competing for group mob spawns. Our fellow moved on to Knorr and ran into 2 more groups there in the Soul Foundry. The point is that folks are leveling via grouping which is great, but it’s the ONLY thing they are doing. Monster xp and fellowship bonus exp have to be looked at and corrected. Questing content is overshadowed by group hunting XP.

Don't mistake me as a complainer. I love AC2, I want it to stay around and thus my concern. There isn’t enough content to retain players at this rate of leveling. I certainly don't mean "we need more hunting grounds." In fact, the inclusion of optimal hunting grounds makes KvK/PvP a wonderful aspect to the game. But on white worlds, entire sections of continents are passed over as folks leap frog from one group hunting spot to the next simply because it’s the fastest way to level.

I remember playing during original release and doing MA/IF/Boots many times just trying to hit the 50 cap. Now there is no reason to do quests because you can make 15 mill every 10 mins on Knorr in a hunting fellow. The issue is that right now our Dev. leader is also an AC1 dev. Time and resources appear slim and I wouldn’t expect AC2 to have a patch schedule like it did in its previous life. If you out level the content, there is no promise of new stuff coming.

For AC2 to survive the long haul, it needs to slow itself down. It needs to retain players, draw them in and make use of all the quests, interest points and features that the game already has. Fellowship exp bonus is one major reason players are blowing through levels. This isn’t about telling someone how to play the game. If you want to craft then craft, if you want to explore then explore. But you cannot do any of that if the game shuts down due to lack of subs and lack of subs comes from uninterested players (ie out leveling content).

As a side note, a KvK/PvP server adds additional game play at the cost of zero Developer hours. Does Turbine foresee a KvK/PvP server ever for AC2?
