Gems, trophies, loot...

I've found a few gems, e.g. "small sapphire" - is this used for crafting, or should I just turn it to gold?

Are any of the low-level trophies useful? I went to some shop, but it seems nobody was selling them, so I didn't bother.

What use is gold anyway? Other than making mounts.
